The circuit of the Americas has been hosting the US Grand Prix since 2012 as part of the Formula One World Championship. This is the first circuit specially built in the United States to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix. The layout of the circuit was designed by Tavo Hellmund, the initiator of the project, assisted by German architect Hermann Tilke (5,515 meters, with 20 turns in the colors of the American flag).
The specific aspects of this circuit:
- it is one of the few circuits of the world championship to turn in a counterclockwise direction
- it takes over some known turns of existing circuits: turns 3 to 6 take the Maggots-Becketts-Chapel route of the Silverstone circuit, turns 13 to 15 return to the stadium of the Hockenheim circuit and turns 16 to 18 look like the quadruple-left of the Istanbul Park circuit
- the steepness at the curve 1 is the "signature" of the circuit with a strong climb leading to the curve followed by a steep descent immediately after.
The track record has been held since 2013 by a Holden VF Commodore (championship V8 Supercars) in 1 min 33s 595 ... Will it beat the 22nd October at the next F1 Grand Prix? We can bet ...
